On January 2, 2025, a new pricing policy for essential consumer goods came into effect in the UAE.
The UAE Ministry of Economy has banned retailers from increasing prices on 9 essential consumer goods without prior approval from the Ministry. These goods include vegetable oil, eggs, dairy products, rice, sugar, poultry meat, beans, bread, and wheat.
Approval from the Ministry of Economy will also be required for price hikes on certain other items, such as cleaning products.
These changes have been introduced to maintain market stability, protect consumer rights, and promote fair competition.
